SAN ANTONIO NOW

The San Antonio Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) is part of the largest grassroots feminist organization in the United States. Together, we are working to advance equality, protect rights, and build a future where every person has the opportunity to thrive.
Building a More Equal Future for Women and Marginalized Communities
Our chapter brings together advocates, organizers, students, professionals, and community members who believe in the power of collective action. Through education, organizing, and advocacy, we are fighting for gender justice here in San Antonio and across Texas.
About the National Organization for Women
The National Organization for Women (NOW) was founded in 1966 by leaders including Betty Friedan, Pauli Murray, Muriel Fox, and others who were determined to bring women into full participation in American society.
Since its founding, NOW has grown into the largest grassroots feminist organization in the United States, advocating for policies and cultural change that advance equality and justice.
NOW’s core priorities include:
-
Reproductive Rights and Justice
-
Economic Justice and Equal Pay
-
Ending Violence Against Women
-
Racial Justice
-
LGBTQIA+ Rights
-
Constitutional Equality
Through grassroots organizing, public education, policy advocacy, and legal action, NOW works to ensure that women and marginalized communities have equal rights and opportunities.
Meet the SATX NOW Team

Leia Zuczek
President
Leia Zuczek is a lifelong feminist who has led multiple women’s networking and empowerment groups throughout the community. Her passion for equality and justice began as a child, watching her mother fight to carve out her own space as one of the only female firefighters in her city.
Leia is especially passionate about protecting reproductive rights, closing the gender pay gap, and demanding justice for all marginalized communities. She has been a member of the National Organization for Women since 2018 and became President of the San Antonio Chapter in 2025.
Her favorite book is The Scarlet Letter, and her feminist icons are Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Lucille Ball—two women who changed the world in very different but equally powerful ways.
Chelsey Gonzalez
Vice President
Chelsey Gonzalez is a dedicated advocate for equality and community, known for speaking up, showing up, and bringing people together. She is passionate about creating welcoming, empowering spaces where people feel seen, supported, and motivated to take action.
Chelsey believes lasting change begins locally—through connection, shared purpose, and care for one another. Her feminism is rooted in community: when women support women, change follows.
Her favorite book is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and her feminist icons are Sally Ride and Tina Fey—one broke barriers in space, the other breaks them in culture.

Why Join NOW?
For decades, women and allies have fought for equal rights. While progress has been made, it is not enough—and our work is far from finished.
We continue to fight for:
-
Closing the gender pay gap
-
Ending violence against women and marginalized communities
-
Establishing reproductive justice
-
Ensuring universal healthcare and childcare
-
Expanding economic opportunity and workplace equality
-
Protecting civil and human rights for all people
The goal is simple but powerful: a level playing field, access to the resources we need to succeed, and justice for everyone.
We have seen time and again that rights are not guaranteed. They can be taken away with the stroke of a pen. That is why organizing matters.
NOW works with legal teams, activists, and partner organizations across the country to push for progress—and we cannot do it without people like you.
